HP Printers – Wireless Printer Setup

Connect the printer to the network and install the required software in the system before you start printing or scanning from your system through a network.

Follow the instruction to setup your printer on a wireless network

Setting up your printer with Windows for a Wireless Network

  • Choose a system that has either Windows 10/Windows8/Windows/Windows Vista Operating System. Please ensure that you have the latest version of Windows 8, else the information given below would not match.
  • Set up your wireless printer in a wireless network.

Installation Process

Step -1 Preparing the Pre-Requisites

  • Confirm that the Printer, System and Router is not switched off, and the System is connected to the same wireless network that you wish the Printer to connect with.
  • Have your Network details such as Network Name and Password ready.
  • Collect the following details:
    • SSID (Network Name)
    • WEP/WPA key (Security passphrase)
    • System connected to the wireless network
    • Internet access (broadband recommended). You need Internet access only to get updates about the Printers, download Printer drivers and to use Web Services. For installing Printers, Internet access is not required.
    • Wireless Printer (keep the Printer close to the System during the Installation process).
    • USB Cable (for wireless installation). Disconnect the USB cables connected with the System.

Step 2 -Connecting to the Wireless Network

You can use the Printer’s Build-In Wireless Setup Wizard to accomplish this.

  • Ensure that your Printers is turned on.
  • Touch the Wireless icon available in the Printers Control Panel. This would display the Wireless screen.
  • Touch the Settings icon, and then touch the Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Follow the instructions on the Control Panel to connect your Printer to the Wireless Network.

Step 3: Downloading and Installing Printer Software

We recommend to install the latest version of the software available from the HP website for all latest updates.

During the installation process if you find an Auto Wireless Connect screen, please follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process, else follow the steps available in the HP Installer software and complete the installation process (connection and driver installation).

  • Ensure that your Printers is turned on.
  • Disconnect the USB cable if it is connected to your Printer.
  • Navigate to HP Customer Support-Software and Driver Downloads.
  • Select a method and identify your printer model.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to go to the download page.
  • Click Download Next for the full feature Driver (we recommend this), else click Basis Drivers for other driver options.

Setting up your Printer withWireless Network with OS X

  • Gather the Wireless Network items.
  • Connect to your Wireless Network.
  • Install the Printer Driver and Software on your Mac runningOS X v10.11 El Capitan, OS X v10.10 Yosemite, OS X v10.9 Mavericks, or OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion

Changing USB Connection to a Wireless connection

Step-1 Connecting the Printer to the Wireless Network

Please use the Wireless Setup build-in wizard for setting up your printer in the wireless network.

  • Ensure that your Printers is turned on.
  • Touch the Wireless icon available in the Printers Control Panel. This would display the Wireless screen.
  • Touch the Settings icon, and then touch the Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Follow the instructions on the Control Panel to connect your Printer to the Wireless Network.

Step 2: Adding Printers to your Printers List

Remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication with the Mac.

  • Click the Apple menu -> System Preferences. The System Preferences window is displayed.
  • Click either of these options: Print & Fax / Printers & Scanners / Print & Scan.
  • Click the Printers name in the Printers section.
  • Click the Minus Sign (-) to remove the Printer from the list.
  • Disconnect the USB cable from the Printer.
  • Click the Plus Sign (+) once the Printer is removed.
  • Select the Printer from the list of devices.
  • Click Add

Setting Printer with Chromebook

To setup the Printer with Chromebook,

  • Go to Settings.
  • Use your ePrint-Capable Printer with a Chromebook.

Instructions to Change Software Installed for USB Connection to Wireless Network Connection

  • Search for the HP folder in the list of installed software programs.
  • Click the Printer in the Printer folder.
  • This opens the HP Printer Assistant Software
  • Click Utilities -> Printer Setup & Software Selection.
  • Click ‘Convert a USB connected printertowireless or Connect a new printer’ (this option differs based on the software version running in your system).
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation process.

Find Network Details with Automated Tool

To gather your Network Details like SSID and WEP Key/WPA passphrase, use the Scan Doctor or HP Print tool. These details are required during the installation process to connect the Printer to the Wireless Network.

These tools are free of cost provided by HP to diagnose and resolve all your printing issues, and troubleshooting tasks.
